Changes in the Conditions for Approval of Czech Language Retraining Courses

Dear Clients,

We would like to inform you that as of Monday, March 23, 2026, the nationwide provisional budget regime is coming to an end. For the Labour Office of the Czech Republic, this means a return to standard operations in the area of employment services, which had been limited at the beginning of the year.

At the same time, we would like to inform you about important changes regarding the conditions for approval of Czech language retraining courses for foreigners, which come into effect with the end of the provisional budget regime.

So far, the Labour Office of the Czech Republic has supported nearly 30,000 Czech language retraining courses attended by citizens of Ukraine, the Philippines, India, Russia, Mongolia, and other countries. The highest number of applications has been recorded since 2022.

Due to high demand, a significant portion of the financial resources allocated to Czech language courses in projects co-financed by the European Union has now been exhausted. This situation requires us to introduce stricter conditions for approving Czech language retraining courses, so that support can be directed where it will have the greatest impact on employment opportunities.

Greater emphasis will now be placed on assessing the link between language training and employment prospects, taking into account current needs and preferred sectors of the Czech labor market.

Basic criteria for approving Czech language retraining courses in 2026:

  • one retraining course per person,
  • support will focus on language levels A2 and B1,
  • both job seekers (uchazeči o zaměstnání) and those interested in employment (zájemci o zaměstnání) may apply,
  • priority will be given to individuals aiming for professions with a long-term labor shortage (e.g. healthcare, social services, education, construction, or technical fields).

This change does not apply to professional retraining courses, which will continue to be provided according to standard principles of efficiency and cost-effectiveness.

If you are unsure whether you meet the new criteria, we recommend contacting a consultant from the “Integration of Foreigners” project in your region, who will provide you with individual information and support.

We understand that this message may be unpleasant for you. We greatly appreciate your interest in education and employment in the Czech Republic. At the same time, we would like to assure you that we are continuously working on securing additional funding through new projects. We will promptly inform you about any further opportunities.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

FAQ

  • Even if you had completed a Czech language retraining course (or courses) before the new criteria came into effect, unfortunately we will not be able to offer you another Czech language course.
  • The amount of remaining funds is limited, so we must prioritize applicants who have not yet taken any Czech language course provided by the Labour Office of the Czech Republic.
  • The maximum level of financial support for retraining from the Labour Office of the Czech Republic remains set at CZK 50,000 per person.
  • However, due to high demand and a limited budget for Czech language retraining courses, we can currently provide only one course per person – so that support reaches as many foreigners in need as possible.
  • At the same time, it is still possible to receive support for multiple courses – for example, one Czech language retraining course and one vocational retraining course.
  • We will now primarily support individuals who have education in fields with a shortage of workforce in the Czech Republic, or those who wish to retrain in these fields.
  • These include, for example, jobs in healthcare, social services, education, construction, or technical fields. Priority professions may vary by region depending on the current needs of the local labor market. For more information, please contact a counselor from the “Integration of Foreigners” project in your region.
  • If you do not fall into priority professions, it does not mean that you will not receive a course at all. You may still obtain one if, after supporting priority professions in your region, there are remaining funds available for other fields.
  • Yes. Even if you do not meet the criteria for funding a Czech language course, you can still join the “Integration of Foreigners” project and receive individual counseling, take part in an extensive advisory program, and possibly start subsidized employment.
  • If you meet the conditions, you may also receive reimbursement for costs related to recognition of education (nostrification). In other projects based on age (Záruky pro mladé, Nová etapa a Věk není překážkou), you can apply for vocational retraining.
  • In the EURES + 3Z Up! project, you can use professional career counseling and obtain information about employment, recognition of education, doing business in the Czech Republic, or prevention of illegal employment and labor exploitation.
  • All services are free of charge and available at every regional branch of the Labour Office of the Czech Republic. Please contact a counselor from the “Integration of Foreigners” project, who will guide you further.
  • Czech language retraining courses are mainly funded through the “Integration of Foreigners" project, while other (vocational) retraining courses are financed through other projects – Záruky pro mladé, Nová etapa a Věk není překážkou.
  • Due to lower demand for other retraining courses, there is currently no need to change their conditions.
  • You cannot receive it automatically, because retraining programs are generally not entitlement-based. This means they are subject to principles of purposefulness and cost-effectiveness.
  • We need to be sure that the specific retraining will help you find a job or improve your current employment.
  • During the initial interview, the counselor from the “Integration of Foreigners" project will ask about your work motivation and how you plan to use the acquired knowledge in your career.
